Wellness Programs

Emotional Eating Program

ACT on Healthy Living was designed for people who have difficulties with long-term weight management due to emotional eating.  That is, eating due to stress, anxiety, low mood, boredom, or guilt from social pressure to eat. Knowing what to do and getting yourself to do it are entirely separate skills. When it comes to changing long-term, habitual patterns, getting yourself to do something different is largely dependent on keeping your values at the forefront.  The  focus of the program is to help you lead a full, vital, and connected life. The approach includes mindfulness practice, learning how to distance yourself from unhelpful thoughts that cause you to struggle, and allowing yourself to feel whatever you feel while doing what matters to you. For it truly to work, participants commit to practicing strategies in their daily lives  as well as in the group meeting. These strategies are supported by scientific evidence to help with managing negative emotions, unhelpful thoughts, and weight. Implementing these strategies, you can live a life that is guided by your inner compass and includes healthy habits as a choice.

Tobacco Cessation Program

When smokers try to quit without medication or counseling, 4 to 6 percent will succeed. Those who get face-to-face counseling along with nicotine-replacement therapy or medication can quadruple that success rate. The Villages Health offers a comprehensive program with both medical support and behavioral strategies to increase your ability to successfully quit. Participants receive information on how stop-smoking products such as nicotine replacement products (NRT) and medications (e.g., Chantix, Zyban) can help them quit. If NRT or medications are appropriate and desired, they will be prescribed and a start date established.  In addition to appointments with our clinical provider, participants will also receive group support through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) led by a Clinical Psychologist. CBT provides assistance in research-tested behavioral tools that increase the success rates, such as motivational enhancement, urge management strategies, stress management strategies, preparation skills for a quit date, and relapse prevention strategies.

  • Group session to begin Monday, September 13 at 11:00 AM
  • To register: Call 352-674-1774

Memory Screenings

A memory screening is a wellness tool that helps identify whether possible changes in memory and cognition are age-related or the beginning of a more serious memory problem. It is not intended to diagnose but instead to evaluate how different areas of your brain are working, providing a baseline of brain function over time. Since many factors triggering memory loss can be reversible, it’s important to practice early detection so that symptoms may be treated.

Prevent T2:

One out of three American adults has prediabetes, and most of them do not know it. Having prediabetes means your blood glucose (sugar) level is higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. This raises your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Without weight loss or moderate physical activity, many people with prediabetes can develop type 2 diabetes within 5 years. The year-long PreventT2 lifestyle change program, developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, can help you make lasting changes to prevent type 2 diabetes.

Each time I visit I become more impressed with how well the Center is organized, staffed and operated. I've had several visits to Audiology with Greg Freeman over the past few weeks and found him to be reassuring and professional and encouraging, making my transition into hearing aids a little easier to deal with. Everything from check-in, the visit itself, the follow-up appointment scheduling and the check-out runs like clockwork.
